A misfortunate sports accident or perhaps the decay on your tooth was too important of a problem to be restored. The loss of a tooth is not something we wish to have but it happens. Fortunately, we’re here to discuss the solution of dental implants regardless of your situation!
About Dental Implants
Implants are artificial roots used to replace missing teeth unto which we screw on a tooth or a what we call a crown or bridge. These fixtures are made of high grade titanium and are biocompatible. Dental implant cleaning require a little more effort that regular teeth cleaning but the majority of our patients feel as though their implants teeth are actually part of their body and their feel their bite force and smile has been restored.
Implants replace missing natural teeth and are at the center of Dr Katiya’s practice. They allow you to bite and chew your food efficiently and give you confidence because they feel like your own teeth. Chewing every bite properly gives you better digestion and healthier absorption of nutrients. They stop the bone from resorbing or « melting away » as well as keep your muscle attachments of the face intact.
Replacing missing teeth prevents other teeth from shifting and de-balancing your occlusion. The goal of having dental implants is to restore what nature initially gave you and strengthen your biting force, your confidence, your chewing capacity and maintain your jaw bone volume and healthy gum.
The process
The first step in the implant placement process is to take a 3-dimensional x-ray. These images allow us to see all the structures of the jawbone in order to plan the positioning of the implant, the type of implant used and the entire surgery.
A meeting with a member of the team is then scheduled to give advice before and after the procedure, as well as the medication necessary for proper healing. The surgery is performed under local anesthesia in a surgical room at the clinic. The implant can be placed with the help of a surgical guide made from the information of the initial scan to make its positioning very precise. Once positioned
