Gum Grafts

Why gum grafts?

Gum thickness and quality are paramount in the health of your chewing apparatus.

Genetically or during and after orthodontics (braces) you may need to thicken and better the

volume of gums you have surrounding teeth. Some patients also have gum loss (recession) and require

that we add gum tissue in order to restore health and decrease tooth sensitivity.

ABOUT GUM GRAFTS

Traumatic brushing and genetic disposition or braces can cause the gums to be thin and the teeth to be sensitive. Increasing gum width, height and volume to restore balance and strength around the teeth or implant is paramount for long term oral health.

Dr Katiya uses the patient’s own soft tissue in a very delicate and gentle technique to successfully recreate what nature should have or had given the patient.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Historically deemed to be very painful procedures, patients often times tell me colleagues, neighbours and uncles have discouraged to toward getting gum grafting procedures.

Today, micro-surgical techniques have greatly improved and patient can undergo a practically painless gum grafting procedure with minimal downtime afterward. Nothing is left to chance, patients receive medication and the procedure is the least invasive as possible to minimize discomfort.

There exists multiple gum grafting techniques to obtain desired results and it is always best to intervene sooner rather than later. Dr Katiya recommends using the patient’s own donor tissue to maximize longevity of the graft.
